Neolophiotrema

Neolophiotrema G.C. Ren & K.D. Hyde, Phytotaxa 482(1): 28 (2021)

Index Fungorum number: IF 557889, Facesoffungi number: FoF 04862

Etymology: Name reflects its morphological similarity to the genus Lophiotrema

Saprobic on decaying wood. Sexual morph: Ascomata scattered, immersed, coriaceous, globose to subglobose, brown to dark-brown, with central ostiole. Ostioles short papillate, produced pink pigment in the inner layer of the ostioles. Peridium thin to thick walled, outer wall composed of several layers, brown to dark-brown, thin-walled cells of textura angularis, inner wall of loose cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium comprising numerous, anastomosing, hyaline, filiform, branched, septate, cellular pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, cylindricalclavate, pedicellate. Ascospores overlapping uni to bi-seriate, 2-celled, broadly fusiform with rounded ends, straight to slightly curved, 1(–3)-septate, hyaline, smooth-walled, with a primary septum nearly median, constricted at the septum, with obvious guttules, surrounded by a wide gelatinous sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Type species:  Neolophiotrema xiaokongense G.C. Ren & K.D. Hyde
